.... the Yellowstone Conservation District has been the regional leader in local common sense conservation practices throughout the 2,649 square mile watershed. The Yellowstone Conservation District is one of 58 conservation districts in the state of Montana including 70 municipalities within those district boundaries.
Conservation districts are political subdivisions with broad power and authority to carry out programs that conserve soil and water, protect streams and rivers, and improve other natural resources. Funding for operations comes from a small tax levied on real property within the boundaries of the conservation district and from grants for operations and special projects. Conservation districts are autonomous local governmental entities.
Conservation districts carry out most work in cooperation with many partners. The main partners include the following, but there are many others:

YCD is a partner and resource to schools and youth organizations throughout Yellowstone County.
Our focus is on developing and expanding conservation outreach through programs with a focus on natural resources topics in Yellowstone County.
YCD provides district education programs in water quality, range management, wildlife habitat, water development and land use planning.
YCD works closely with other state and local agencies and organizations to support conservation efforts throughout the county.
We are a public resource that provides local coordination for many State and Federal land and water management programs. We cooperate with local government units to positively influence private land management decisions, and provide management assistance to landowners in Yellowstone County.
